HOMESTAY AND HOST FAMILIES
If you prefer to live with a host American family, you may wish to look into a Homestay Program. These programs are arranged through private companies that charge a fee to match you with a compatible, pre-screened family. Your living arrangements would depend on your personal preferences as well as those of the host family. They often provides meals; typically the student would have a private bedroom and share a bathroom with members of the family.
In most cases, a refundable damage deposit will be charged in addition to the processing fee and the monthly rent. Prices vary greatly depending on the company and facilities provided. Each of these private companies has its own rules and regulations; LAPAC does not monitor or administer these programs. Applications must be submitted directly to the organization and processed prior to your arrival. Keep in mind that some of these companies require full payment in advance.
Please mention that you are our student when you inquire about the following Homestays.
The following are some organizations that you may contact:
U.S. Support Services Inc. (U.S.S.S.)
The Homestay experience provides wonderful opportunities to make new friends, learn more about cultures in the US, and practice new English skills! Students often tell us that they come to feel as though they have two families: their own families and their homestay family. The students are thought of as part of the family and are immersed in the culture and everyday life of their host family.
Homestay is a terrific learning experience for students and families. Host families want to learn more about their student’s culture as much as they want to help teach their student about life in the US. Our homestay families feel the same way about the students staying with them and will often keep in touch even after the student has moved out. What makes up a family in the United States may be similar to a traditional family in your own country, or it may be very different. We have hosts from various ethnic groups, socioeconomic levels, religions, and lifestyles. Although we are committed to making appropriate and comfortable Homestay matches, please be open to experiencing our cultural diversity. Homestay can be a very rewarding experience for both students and families!!

There are many different types of housing available here in LA/Santa Monica. There are single rooms in condos/a house (you share with other people), bachelor apartments (no kitchen), studio apartments (have a kitchen but no distinct bedroom), one bedroom, two bedrooms, and many others. To share a room is between $500-800. To have your own room in a two bedroom is between $900-$1400 a month. From there prices go up. Getting Around Los Angeles
For the first week that you arrive, you will probably need to rent a car until you get completely settled. If you’re under 21, rentals can run from $70-$130 a day. If you’re over 25, rentals can run from $40-$130 a day. However after the first week, if you choose to live in an area closest to The Acting Studio at Edgemar Center for the Arts, a bicycle is and the public transportation (bus, train, metro) will be adequate. However, if you do plan on staying and working as an actor in the LA area, you will probably want a car for auditions, castings, and working jobs. It is not absolutely necessary though, and you can oftentimes rent a car for a day or two if a job is booked.

A bicycle is a great way to get around Santa Monica.
Bike shops can be found in any area of Los Angeles County.
However, if you would like to travel beyond the Santa Monica community; please refer to http://www.metro.net/ which will link you to the public transportation system where information for ticket pricing, directions, and travel times can be found. Please remember that the public transportation will take longer than having your own vehicle therefore, you must know that you will need to allow additional time to arrive at your destination.
