If you want to be a dancer – to provide a solid foundation of a dance technique for students of any age and level that can be taken further in the professional world and can be respected and admired by professionals, leading to a professional dancer career, working in a dance company or becoming a choreographer.
If you are not thinking of pursuing a dance career down the line but you want to take dance classes– to provide a valid, healthy dance background that can be utilized in multiple ways – as an actor, having an additional skill is a great attribute; in any other career- presenting yourself with an attitude, grace and elegance that will make you stand out in whichever profession you wish to pursue.
School of Professional Ballet, Los Angeles
Learning ballet is more than just getting familiar with a dance technique. It is a culture, way of being, adjusting to the elegance and grace that it carries. At SPBLA we learn both the Russian and the French ballet techniques, through which we get the best out of the ballet world – the lines, strictness and perfection of the Russian, and the lightness and timing of the French. SPBLA is a professional school that will give you an experience which will affect your way of being and teach you a traditional way of appreciating art, movement and stage.
Class Description & Final performance dates:
Grade 1 (6-8 yrs old) Tuesday (3:30-4:30pm)
In this class we plant the beauty of ballet in a little dancer’s heart. We get to know the manners, the terms, positions and movements slowly through bar technique and ballet games. We also get familiar with the idea of stage and how the class prepares us for performance. After ten weeks our Grade 1 student be a knowledgeable little ballerina who carries herself gracefully through the streets of Los Angeles.
Grade 2 (9-11 yrs old) Friday (3:30-4:30pm)
In this class we go through the basics faster than in Grade 1. We have to memorize the ballet terms and the positions in less than 3 weeks so we can pursue bar combinations and work in the middle of the dance floor in depth. The technique is more relevant in this grade, even though the stage presence and the love for dance is what we will care the most about. This is the age where the body can be placed in the right “dancer way” which will affect their dance education throughout years. The health of the body and soul of every dancer at this age is crucial for their further training.
Grade 3 (12-13 yrs old) Tuesday (5-6:30pm)
In this class we focus on developing as many technical skills as possible. We will do a lot of stretching and other additional exercises to open up the body to other techniques apart from ballet. We will also focus on pursuing variations and other ballet choreography.

Ida Nowakowska Herndon
(Artistic Director)
Ida started dancing when she was 5 years old. She started performing at a professional theater in Poland at the age of eight. She used to call the professional theater Roma her second home. At some point, when starring in The Phantom of the Opera as Meg Giry, she had been there more than home since she had a show every night (performed in Phantom 256 times!). She lived in New York City where she attended Professional Performing Arts School (that’s where Alicia Keys and Britney Spears went!) and had a full scholarship in the pre-professional program of Steps on Broadway under the mentorship of Leslie Browne (ABT Star, also known for the ballet film The Turning Point with Mikhail Baryshnikov ). She performed in the Metropolitan Opera in NYC in La Bayadere and Les Troyens and on Broadway opposite Randy Skinner (42nd Street Revival) doing Reel to Real Broadway Babies seasonal musical; as well as musicals such as Peter Pan (Jane, Tiger Lilly), Cats (Victoria), Dance of the Vampires (artistic director- Roman Polanski) at the Roma Theater in Warsaw. She attended the National School of Ballet in Poland, receiving a nationwide title of the Best Graduate (Gold Pointe Grand Prix) and winning two Gold Prizes on an International Ballet Competition in Gdansk. After that Ida auditioned for the first season of So You Think You Can Dance – Poland and made it all the way to the finale as the youngest contestant! Her many film and TV credits include a lead in Out of Reach opposite Steven Seagal, Suicide Room and hosted her own show “The Fitting Room” for two years working with the French TV Canal+. Ida recently graduated from UCLA with a major in Theater (under the ballet mentorship of Nicholas Gunn, who became her biggest inspiration for teaching dance) and a minor in Political Science (why not!). She had been teaching and giving workshops all around the world and she loves sharing her passion with others. Ida couldn’t be more excited to be able to share her love for dance everyday with the students of the Professional Ballet School – Los Angeles.
