Step-by-Step: How to Apply for a Student Visa USA
1. Apply to a SEVP-Certified School
Your first step is to apply and gain acceptance to a U.S. school that is certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
Once accepted, the school will issue you a Form I-20, which is required to apply for your visa.
2. Pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee
After receiving your I-20, pay the SEVIS I-901 fee:
- F-1 and M-1 visa applicants: $350
- Payment portal: www.fmjfee.com
3. Complete the DS-160 Form
This online visa application form must be submitted before your interview.
- Submit at https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/
