Step-by-Step F1 Visa Application Process
Step 1: Apply to the Conservatory
Begin by submitting your application to the Los Angeles Acting Conservatory. Once accepted, you’ll receive an I-20 form, which is necessary for your visa application.
Step 2: Pay the SEVIS Fee
The SEVIS I-901 fee must be paid before scheduling your visa appointment. This confirms your entry into the U.S. student system.
Step 3: Complete the DS-160 Form
This is the Nonimmigrant Visa Application form. Complete it online and print the confirmation page for your interview.
Step 4: Schedule Your Visa Interview
Make an appointment with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country.
Step 5: Attend the VISA Interview
Bring the following:
- Passport
- Form I-20
- DS-160 confirmation
- SEVIS payment receipt
- Proof of financial support
- Academic transcripts or diplomas
Step 6: Receive Your Visa

You can work on-campus part-time during your first academic year. After that, you may apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT).
How long does it take to get an F1 visa?
It varies by country, but allow at least 4–6 weeks from the time of acceptance.
Can I extend my stay after graduating?
Yes, through OPT, you may stay up to 12 months (or more for STEM fields) to gain work experience.
Can I bring my spouse or children?
Yes. They would apply for F2 visas but cannot work in the U.S.
