In this class you will receive acting tips to some of the most common asked questions for rising actors:
How do I get representation as an actor or actress?
- Get some experience under your belt.
- Do showcases, Broadway plays or student films.
- Submit to Actors Access, Backstage or L.A casting. This will teach you how to audition, compete and book.
What Makes a Good Professional Headshot?
- Make sure it looks like YOU
- Capture more than just your head, include hairline, chin and neck
- Go portrait not landscape
- Make sure its in color
- Look at the camera, your eyes are the most important part of the headshot
How do I format my resume? What do I put in it?
- It is imperative that your resume is easy to read in no more than eight seconds.
- It should convey to the agent or CD what your strongest training and credits are.
- The most professional structure for an acting resume is three columns.
- Include the size of the role using key terms such as starring, co-starring, supporting, featured, or recurring.
- Skills should include sports and activities, dialects and languages, this increases your chances of being cast
Union vs Non-union, Do I have to be a union member to book work?
- You do not have to be a union member to book work.
- There are a plethora of non- union jobs, which is highly recommended to gain experience i.e commercials
- After you’ve gotten exposure, joining a union will be a breeze, if not a costly one.
Self Confidence is a Must
- Understand and trust your own capabilities on the stage.
- Don’t allow other’s opinion of you affect your opinion of yourself.
- Focus on the objective, not the outcome.
When Auditioning
- Always bring a picture and resume with an email address included so you can be reached
- Don’t make excuses
- Be able to make decisions when asked, be assertive/direct
- Don’t take the last audition times of the day. The earlier the better
- Don’t start over, if you mess up just keep going
- Keep auditioning. Practice is the best teacher
