That really depends on what the role is and how challenging it is for you. Sometimes you can overwork something. And sometimes you need to give yourself more rehearsals. So it really depends. It varies with every person and every project I would say. 

How much time should they devote to that role outside of rehearsals?

 If that’s what you need to do and if that’s what he needed to do for himself – absolutely. It goes back to knowing yourself really well as an actor. And trusting that you have to do what you have to do. Sometimes, if you shoot a really difficult scene you can’t be social on set. You have to create a bubble around you. And you have to stay to yourself. That’s the Actor’s work you put in after you book a Role.

I know it’s a little hard. But if you are a new actor it all depends on how you do it. I think that the most important thing is what’s on the screen. So whatever it takes to make that performance happen, you have to deliver that. You know what you have to do in order to get there.
